Bloom stage: the moment your coffee starts to open up
How to Brew with the V60
- Prepare Filter: Place the paper filter in the V60 and rinse with hot water to eliminate paper taste and preheat the brewer. Discard rinse water.
- Add Coffee: Place the V60 on your mug or carafe. Add 15g of ground coffee to the filter and gently shake to level the grounds.
- Bloom: Start your timer. Pour 50g of hot water evenly over the grounds to saturate them. Let it bloom for 30 seconds.
- Main Pour: After the bloom, slowly pour the remaining 200g of water in a circular motion, starting from the centre and moving outward. Aim to finish pouring by 2:00 minutes.
- Drawdown: Allow the coffee to drip through completely. Total brew time should be around 2:30 to 3:00 minutes.
- Serve: Remove the V60, swirl the coffee in your mug or carafe, and enjoy.
☕ Brewing Tip
A steady hand makes all the difference. A gooseneck kettle helps control your pour and hits all the grounds evenly.

FAQs
Can I use pre-ground coffee?
Freshly ground coffee is best, but if you must use pre-ground, ensure it's for pour-over brewing (medium-fine grind).
Do I need a gooseneck kettle?
While not mandatory, a gooseneck kettle provides better control over pouring, leading to more consistent results.
How important is water temperature?
Very. Water that's too hot can over-extract, making coffee bitter. Too cool, and it under-extracts, leading to sourness. Aim for around 94°C.
