Mastering the Art of Chemex Coffee Brewing: A Comprehensive Guide

Brewing Process: A Step-by-Step Guide

1. Preheat the Carafe:

Rinse the Chemex carafe with hot water to warm it and remove any papery taste.

2. Grind the Coffee:

Weigh 42 grams (6 tablespoons) of coffee beans and grind them to a medium-fine consistency.

3. Position the Filter:

Place a Chemex filter in the carafe and carefully pour hot water over it to rinse and remove any papery taste. Discard the rinse water.

4. Add Coffee:

Center the ground coffee in the filter and level it evenly.

5. Bloom Phase:

Start the timer and gently pour 60 grams of hot water over the coffee grounds. This initial "bloom" phase allows the coffee to expand and release carbon dioxide.

6. Pouring Stages:

After 30-45 seconds, gradually pour the remaining water in three stages, each time waiting for the water to drain almost completely before adding more.

7. Total Brew Time:

The total brewing time should be around 3.5-4.5 minutes.

8. Enjoy:

Carefully remove the filter with the used grounds and discard them. Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your favourite mug and savour the rich, flavorful cup.

6. Clean and Dry the Carafe:
