AeroPress Brewing Guide: Smooth Coffee, No Fuss

The AeroPress is one of the easiest, most versatile brewers out there. It’s fast, travel-friendly, and makes a cracking cup with hardly any cleanup. Here's how to get the best from it.

What You’ll Need

  • AeroPress (with plunger and chamber)
  • Filter paper (or a metal filter)
  • Freshly ground coffee (medium-fine)
  • Kettle
  • Scales (optional, but helpful)
  • Stirrer or spoon
  • Timer

Brew Ratio & Grind Size

We go with 15g of coffee to 250 ml of water

Grind should feel like table salt - a bit finer than cafetière, not quite as fine as espresso.

How to Brew with the AeroPress

  1. Boil the kettle and let it cool slightly (aim for 92–96°C)
  2. Place a filter paper in the cap and rinse with hot water
  3. Add 15g of ground coffee to the AeroPress chamber
  4. Start your timer and pour in 250ml of water (in one go)
  5. Stir gently for 10 seconds to agitate the grounds
  6. Insert the plunger to create a seal (don’t press yet)
  7. At 1:30, begin pressing slowly. Aim for 20–30 seconds total press time
  8. Serve straight up or dilute to taste

☕ Brewing Tip

Try the inverted method if you like a richer cup. Just make sure you flip with confidence - it's not for the faint-hearted.

Our Favourite Beans for AeroPress

The AeroPress plays well with loads of coffees, but it shines with balanced, sweet, and slightly fruity profiles.

☕ Brewing Tip

Lighter roasts often need a bit more brew time to extract fully. Try a 2-minute steep before pressing for floral or fruity beans.

FAQs

Do I need to bloom the coffee?

Not really. A quick stir gets things going just fine.

Can I use espresso roast?

You can, but medium roasts tend to be smoother and more forgiving.

Is the AeroPress good for travel?

Absolutely. It's practically built for it. Lightweight, tough, and no breakable parts.

What if I don’t have scales?

No stress. Use about 1 rounded AeroPress scoop to one full chamber of water.
